NOTICE OF RACE

1. Racing Rules

1.0 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024 1.1 The Special Regulations of Yachting Australia part 2 for off the beach boats will apply.


2. Eligibility and Entry

2.0 The regatta is open to all off the beach catamarans up to 25 feet in length.

2.1 A minimum of 5 entries is required to form a class. If sufficient entries for a class are not received by the closing date for entries, the organising authority reserves the right to cancel racing or make other arrangements for the class concerned.

2.2 Eligible boat may enter by completing the online entry form.

2.3 Entry fee

$340.00 double handed catamaran

$220.00 single handed catamaran

All catamaran sailors welcome.

3. Alteration to Racing Rules

3.0 Rules 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required.


4. Schedule of Events

4.0 Registration

4.1 Registration will take place on Currumbin Beach on Sat 8th June between 9.30am and 10.00am.

4.2 Racing- Saturday and Sunday races will be for the Memorial Bad News Trophy

4.3 Monday will be a Marathon with a separate prize.

4.5 Date Time of warning signal

Saturday 8th June - Bad News Not before 10am.

Sunday 9th June - Bad News Not before 10am.

Monday 10th June - Marathon Not before 10am.

Last warning signal not after 3.00pm

4.6 The Race Committee may hold up to 6 races per day with some back to back races, the intention is to run 3 races Saturday back to back, 2+2 Sunday and 1 on Monday,

4.7 The maximum number of races for the regatta will be open.

4.8 A minimum of 1 race is required to constitute a series.

5. Social

5.0 As per traditional “Bad News” hospitality, including:

Saturday Night: GCCC 60th Anniversary Reunion. To be held at Palm Beach Currumbin Sports Club and including GCCC hospitality. Tickets to this event are included in your entry fee (2 tickets for double handed and 1 ticket for single handed boats). Extra tickets for non competitors are available for $70. More information coming soon!

6. Sailing Instructions

6.0 The sailing instructions will be available at registration.

7. Courses

7.0 The courses shall be as per the sailing instructions

8. Scoring

8.0 The Low Point Scoring System, Racing Rules of Sailing Appendix A will apply.

8.1 If 4 or more races are completed in a series the worst score will be dropped.

8.2 A and B Fleet Series may be held.

9. Prizes

9.0 Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Committee.

10. Insurance

10.0 All competitors must have third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $5 million.

10.1 Each boat must have third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $5 million.

10.2 Proof of insurance must be provided at the request of the organising committee before an entry is accepted.

All owners and/or competitors who sign the Entry Form are deemed to have made a declaration that they hold such cover.

By entering the Memorial Bad News Regatta each and every boat owner and participate acknowledges they have the correct insurance to participate in the event

11.Liability

11.0 It is each competitor’s decision to enter an event or to start and/or continue any race. Each competitor accepts that their participation in an event or race shall be at their exclusive risk in every respect. See Rule 4 Decision to Race.

11.1 The organising authority, host club and their offices, members, servants and agents and all parties involved in the regatta’s organisation accept no liability in respect of loss of life, personal injury or loss or damage howsoever caused which may occur whether ashore or afloat during or in conjunction with the regatta.

11.2 This Notice of Race and the sailing instructions do not limit or reduce the complete and unlimited responsibilities for each entrant for the management or care of a boat which he or she has entered in the regatta.

12. Amendments

12.0. Any amendments to this Notice of Race will be posted on The Gold Coast Catamaran Club Facebook page and Noticeboard on the beach.

13. Accommodation

13.0 Please note that while there is a variety of accommodation available in the Currumbin area (Gold Coast) ranging from caravan park/camping to resort-style accommodation, early bookings are highly recommended for this weekend.
